This car currently resides in the Sloan Museum at the Flint Cultural Center in Flint, Michigan.įirst seen on a concept car, the Centurion was nearly identical to the contemporaneous Buick LeSabre, differing in badging and grillework, minimal chrome trim, and an absence of the VentiPorts found on other full-size Buicks. It featured a red and white fiberglass body, airplane-like interior design, a fully clear "bubble top" roof and the first backup camera in place of a rear-view mirror, although it was never shown to be functional. ![]() The Centurion name was first used on a Buick concept car in the 1956 Motorama. The Centurion shared a trim package implementation shared with the Chevrolet Caprice, Pontiac Grand Ville and the Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royale as a hardtop coupe, sedan and convertible.ġ956 GM Motorama showcar 1956 concept car The car's emblem was not the traditional Buick tri-shield, but a side profile of a centurion. The Centurion name was inspired by a Buick concept car, the name coming from that of an officer in the Roman Army. Replacing the Wildcat as the sporty iteration of Buick's three full-size car lines, it was positioned between the LeSabre and Electra in the lineup. The Buick Centurion is a full-size car built from the 1971 through 1973 model years. A batwing-style air cleaner has been added, and a stock unit is included in the sale. The 455ci V8 is mated to a three-speed TH400 automatic transmission. A stock steering wheel is included in the sale, though the plastic is deteriorating and it is sticky. A new blower motor resistor has reportedly been installed and the seller states that the air conditioning functions normally. The five-digit odometer shows approximately 99k miles, with total mileage unknown. The interior features a split front bench seat upholstered in black vinyl, a 1972 Buick GS steering wheel, woodgrain dash trim, air conditioning, power windows, and a Sonomatic AM radio. The seller states that the car has been kept in a temperature-controlled warehouse during their ownership. Photos in the gallery show the car at the time of the seller’s purchase wearing wheel covers, which are included in the sale. The front and rear brakes are said to have been overhauled under current ownership. Polished and painted 15″ Buick rally wheels are mounted with Michelin tires. A replacement top is included in the sale. The seller notes that the power top cables have been replaced and points out a torn seam in the fabric in a gallery close-up below. The exterior features chrome bumpers and rocker panel trim as well as a black soft top, which is described as older and is photographed in its raised and lowered positions. ![]() The body is finished in black, and the seller states that it was repainted under previous ownership. This Centurion is offered with a stock air cleaner and wheel covers, a replacement soft top, a top boot, a build sheet, recent service records, and a clean Florida title in the seller’s name. The seller acquired the car in 2015 and has since added Buick Rally wheels, replaced the power top cables, installed a GS-style steering wheel, and had the carburetor rebuilt, among other work. This 1973 Buick Centurion convertible is powered by a 455ci V8 paired with a three-speed automatic transmission and is finished in black with a black soft top over a matching vinyl interior. ![]()
